Let your project rise to the international scene!

dok.elevator is a workshop for selected Nordic producers and directors, already well established at national level, who aim to introduce their projects to the international scene. The workshop focuses on international film distribution, festival work, PR and marketing. Experienced tutors from the film industry (producers, sales agents, PR specialists) inform the participants about the current situation in European distribution and the festival landscape, and provide tailor-made consultations with a concrete focus on their individual projects, solving production issues, preparing PR materials and elaborating distribution and festival strategies. The program will guide the participants through the backstage of the festival, pitching forum and market, showing them how to use these instruments. The program also facilitates meetings with producers, sales and festival representative,s showing participants how they can use this platform.

China Åhlander /SE/
Company: Chinema Film Sweden

China Åhlander is an internationally awarded producer and a member of ACE producer’s as well as the EAVE network. The festivals’ favourite ‘EAT SLEEP DIE’ (2012) and the more recent film ‘My Aunt in Sarajevo’ (2016) are the most awarded and well-known ones. Her documentary ‘Close to the Soil’ (2001) was awarded in Aspen (Best documentary) and Telluride (The Jury Award). As a producer, China Åhlander works very closely with her directors and the scripts and is fully committed throughout the whole creative process.

 

Elin Kamlert /SE/

Elin Kamlert is a producer, project manager and production/storytelling consultant based in Malmö. She has studied film at Fridhems Folkhögskola and humanities at Lund University. Between 2012-2016 she worked at WG Film, where she produced ‘Bikes vs Cars’, associate-produced ‘Becoming Zlatan’ and second-produced ‘Dead Donkeys Fear No Hyenas’, and also worked with outreach strategies and sales for ‘Big boys gone Bananas!*’. Elin is a graduate of EAVE’s European Producers Workshop, 2013.

Simon Klose /SE/

Simon Klose is a Swedish documentary producer and director based in Malmö, Sweden. In 2013, Simon released ‘TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay Away from Keyboard’, a feature doc about the filesharing conflict that reached an audience of six million viewers thanks to its multi-platform distribution strategy. Currently Simon is producing ‘Första Blatten på Månen’ about the Swedish artist Dogge Doggelito and ‘The Internet Before the Internet’ about the world’s first social network. Simon holds a master’s degree in law from Stockholm University and is part of the Gulbagge “Best Documentary“ Nomination Committee.

Jonathan Saruk /SE/

Jonathan Saruk is a Blake Street Films producer and cinematographer who has produced video content for the likes of WDR/ARTE, ORF, 3SAT, UNHCR, Al Jazeera and Euronews.  He is director of photography on the upcoming feature length documentary ‘Truth Detectives’, shot for WDR/ARTE.  He is also a producer on the upcoming Finnish documentary ‘Typhoon Mama’, a co-production with Illume Oy. A graduate of the International Center of Photography in New York, Jonathan also holds an M.A. in print journalism from New York University.

Lauri Danska /FI/

Originally from Finland Lauri Danska studied documentary directing at the NFTS (The National Film and Television School, UK) and his debut ‘Markku and Me’ was long listed for the British Independent Film awards (2016). Since then he’s directed documentaries for the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) and is now developing his first feature as a director.

Iina Terho (born 1977) has been a freelance filmmaker since 2006. She lived in the Finnish outern archipelago on the isle of Jurmo between 2009 and 2011. In addition to filmmaking, writing and multidisciplinary projects are important for her. She has for example published a photobook and been a part of a performance group. With her own production company Sydänfilmi (2012), Iina has worked in different fields, her films have been made for art galleries and for presentations as well. ‘Zombie Wedding and other Stories’ is her first feature length documentary film.

Producer for Gammaglimt since February 2015. Freelance worker for Gammaglimt AS since 2006 on different projects, assigned as a researcher and line producer among other things. Film studies at NTNU 2003-2005. Attended the 2015 Young Nordic Producers Club in Cannes. Pitched projects at Minimalen 2015 and 2016, Movies On War 2016 and Kosmorama 2017. Latest projects include ‘Blackhearts’ (2016 / outreach producer & assistant producer) and ‘Braving The Waves’ (2016 / co-producer).

A graduate of Economic theories (Charles University) and Film production (FAMU). With movie ‘Kids from the East’ of awards-winning director Aramisova, they won 3 main awards at Agora Crossroads on Thessaloniki IFF and went through various prestigious workshops including Torino Film Lab. He was awarded as a Promising Producer at Tallinn Black Nights IFF (2014) and Promotion Prize of the GWFF at Cottbus IFF (2015). He attended MIDPOINT, MAIA, SOFA, ARCHIDOC, Producers Network and Workshop at Cannes IFF, Berlinale Talents and Trans Atlantic Partners.

Arash T. Riahi /AT/
Producer, Director / Golden Girls

Born in 1972 in Iran, Arash T. Riahi moved to Austria as the child of political refugees in 1982. Studying Film and the Arts at the University of Vienna, he then worked as a freelancer in the youth and art department of Austrian TV. In 1997, he founded the film and media production company Golden Girls  Filmproduktion (www.goldengirls.at). His body of work, which has won more than 80 international awards, comprises various short and experimental films (‘Mississippi’; ‘That Has Been Bothering Me The Whole Time’), commercials, music videos, and documentaries, including ‘The Souvenirs of Mr. X’, ‘Exile Family Movie’ or the cross-media project ‘Everyday Rebellion’ that he made with his brother Arman. His first fiction film ‘Fora Moment Freedom’ was Austria’s candidate for the Academy Awards in 2010.
Since 2010, he is also working as a dramatic advisor for the MEDIA supported script-development programmes SOURCES 2, Nipkow and Berlinale Talents. He teaches at the Vienna film school and the filmacademy, and has held lectures at the Scottish Documentary Institute, Goethe Institute Dublin, ZKM Karlsruhe, etc.

After collaborating with different festivals in France (Les Rencontres du Cinéma, Sunny Side of the Doc, FIPA…), Maëlle started working in  International distribution with Point du Jour International and Doc&Co (now Doc & Film International). She joined Catherine Le Clef in 2009 to set up CAT&Docs. CAT &Docs is dedicated to the promotion & distribution of all types of docs, in all media around the world: pertinent and impertinent docs on topical questions and timeless subjects; docs that are carefully researched, audacious, question the world and propose new ways of looking at it. Liisa Juntunen-Karpo /FI/

Liisa Juntunen is an award-winning producer based in Helsinki and the founder of production company napafilms (2009). Napafilms has produced short fiction films and award documentaries in all forms; feature, short, web series and also Finland’s first interactive documentary about animal production called ‘From Pen to Plate’ (by Marika Väisänen). Liisa has participated in several international workshops and the latest of them being 2016 EAVE. Her latest produced feature documentary films are ‘Grey Violet – Odd One Out’ (by Reetta Aalto) which premiered in Hot Docs 2017, ‘Cheer Up’ (by Christy Garland) which premiered in Hot Docs 2016, ‘War and Peace of Mind’ (by Ari Matikainen) which premiered in Edinburgh in 2016. Liisa is currently co-producing several international productions with countries such as South-Korea, India and Norway.

Grant Keir /UK/
Film/TV Producer and Consultant
Grant Keir develops and produces feature films, TV dramas, documentaries and cross platform projects with a range of national and international partners. He obtained a degree in Geography from University College London and started in TV in the mid-80s as a researcher at ITN. Grant has produced films and TV programmes on four continents and attends all the major film markets and festivals. He has an extensive network of national and international contacts in the film and TV world.  Grant was an active member of the Sheffield Docfest Board and is a graduate of the European Audio Visual Entrepreneurs (EAVE) professional producer training course.  He specialised in coaching creative start-up entrepreneurs in how to pitch to decision-makers more effectively, and worked for national clients such as NESTA, Channel4Talent and Skillset.  Grant has written, developed and produced award winning short films and many hours of documentaries for Faction North Ltd. He now lives in Edinburgh where he loves music and enjoys the Arts, cycling, and cooking Thai food.
