This film began in the most unlikely way. Jana Hojdová, a former cinematography student at Prague's FAMU, decided to approach Robert Richardson for her master's degree project. His body of work had inspired her like nothing else. She wrote him an email — and to her surprise, he replied. What started as a student exercise soon evolved into an extraordinary creative partnership and a deep friendship. Richardson opened up to Jana like never before, granting her access to his archives and into his personal and professional life. Jana traveled with Richardson around the world, attended the Academy Awards, and witnessed major productions alongside Quentin Tarantino, Oliver Stone and Martin Scorsese. The result is not only a film about one of the greatest cinematographers of our time, but a powerful story about courage, passion, and belief. A reminder that where you come from matters less than the drive to follow your vision.
