Arya Rothe is a director, editor, and producer based in Pune, India, and a co-founder of the NoCut Film Collective. She is an alumna of the DocNomads Master’s Course (2016) and the FAMU National Film School in the Czech Republic. Arya is a recipient of the 2023 IDA Logan Elevate Award. She is also a Chicken and Egg Grantee. Her feature-length creative documentary A Rifle and a Bag, which she co-directed and co-edited, premiered at the 2020 International Film Festival Rotterdam, receiving a Special Mention from the Jury of the Bright Future Competition. The film was supported by IDFA Bertha Fund, Asian Cinema Fund, AlterCine Foundation, and Doha Film Institute. It has been showcased in over 50 film festivals and was acquired by MUBI for online streaming. Arya has worked as a co-editor for the Indian episode of Netflix US Docu series My Love. It won the IDA award for the best episode in a series. She has spent two years as an editor for the project, Indira’s Emergency, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. The project, constructed entirely from archival material, was mainly built with editing. Arya has worked in various capacities, including director, editor, producer and writer on documentary projects for platforms such as Arté, RTBF, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.
