After earning a bachelor’s degree in multimedia, partly in Denmark and partly in his hometown of Riga, Jurgis realized that project management was not the right path for him. After working at several agencies and a brief stint as a kindergarten teacher (an experience that has proven invaluable in his collaborations with directors), he decided to return to studying—this time focusing on film editing. Working in film had never been his childhood dream, but he felt a strong need to catch up—and he did. Since then, Jurgis has edited countless short films and music videos, three TV series, four scripted feature films, and six documentary films. Some of these projects have gained recognition at both local and international festivals, winning awards such as Best Debut, Best Scripted Film, and Best Documentary at the Latvian National Film Awards. This year, the TV series Mutiny has been nominated for Best TV Series and Best Editing at the same awards. Last year, he started lecturing on film editing at the Latvian Academy of Culture, and this year, to refine his storytelling skills, he returned to his studies to pursue a master's degree in directing.
