Karsten is a Norwegian film editor, who has been working on a variety of short and feature films, drama series and documentaries since he graduated from the National Film School of Norway in 2010. He fell in love with film editing when he studied Turkish language at university, realizing that an essential grammar of cinema is found in the montage of images, and that diving into film language is the ideal way (for him) to explore and learn about cinema as an art form. Meinich’s background in writing and criticism as a student also led him to launch the online film journal Montages, and he divides his time professionally between mainly working as a film editor, and part-time going to international film festivals and writing essayistic articles and doing in-depth interviews about cinema and film culture. His work as film editor is defined by forging close relationships with directors, and for his work, he has also received the Kanon award and the Amanda award for best editing. He has also worked as a curator/programmer, e.g., the international streaming service MUBI.
